We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but did you know that sitting down for a bowl of breakfast cereal might not be the best option for you and that, there are other alternatives to cereal? Of course, you could be very selective in choosing a suitable nutritious grain. However, you might still be missing out on others altogether.
Breakfast cereal is an easy go-to option for its quick and easy preparation. However, there are still many other options you can be filling your breakfast bowl with and nutritionally get more benefit.
Mini Frittatas
Baked in a muffin tray are these mini omelets. You can eat them hot or cold, depending on your mood. You can also add other healthy foods like vegetables, cheese, or meats. Mix up eggs with chopped vegetables, a pinch of salt and pepper, and pop in the oven for 15-20 minutes. You can even make these ahead of time in batches!
Breakfast Quesadillas
It only takes a few minutes in the skillet to cook and is great for using leftovers. Greens, beans, roasted potatoes, leftover meat, anything you’ve got will work. The best part is that it’s super healthy for you!
Biscuits or Muffins
These are pretty great because you can add in all sorts of things to make them even more healthy and tasty. For example, I like to add nuts, seeds, and fruits like blueberries into the mix and replace sugar with honey, banana, or maple syrup.
Muesli
Muesli is excellent for the summertime when it’s too hot for things like a hot bowl of oatmeal. Raw oats, fruit, and nuts are very filling and can be soaked in milk overnight to make a cold breakfast that’s ready to help you beat the heat of the summer’s day.
Porridge
Porridge isn’t just for Goldilocks and the three bears. It’s a great breakfast meal that can be cooked pretty quickly by adding a different topping to it. Some tasty porridge toppings to try would be natural yogurt, honey, fruit, crushed nuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, nut butter, banana, and pepitas. YUM!
Smoothies
Smoothies are very healthy for you but make sure they fill you up until your next meal can be tricky. Instead, try adding dry oats, nut butter, or avocado for more protein and belly-filling power!
Yogurt cup
Plain or Greek yogurt with fresh fruits added in can be tasty and good for your muscles and bones. You can also add mixed nuts, honey to sweeten, fresh fruits, and muesli. This way, you get a healthy breakfast, and it’s super fast.
Breakfast Bar
It would help if you were very careful with these. Some of these bars say they are healthy when full of sugar. Instead, I like to make my own to ensure I eat only the most nutritious ingredients. So, instead of adding sugar, try adding some nuts, oats, or dried fruit. Those ingredients will guarantee it tastes great and will be healthy for you.
Ham and Egg Cups
You can make these in a muffin tray with ham and eggs. Then, add some vegetables, cheese, leftovers, and more. Just use a lot of imagination for a lot of taste! Also, they are very healthy and sure to help give you the energy you need to make it through the day.
Eggs and Toast Soldiers
These are soft boiled or poached eggs with whole meal toast soldiers. They are a great and healthy meal that’s as easy and tasty as pouring a bowl of cereal. You could even try using Steamed Asparagus or Green beans instead as dippers.
The Surprise Plate
Like the Breakfast quesadillas, these are great for using leftovers. You can add in fruits, veggies, meat, cheese, olives, dried fruit, and nuts to make whatever surprise you’d like to see on your plate in the morning.
It would be best if you now had some great inspiration for swapping out your not-so-healthy breakfast cereal with some newfound faves. Then, your morning will be happier, healthier and your body will thank you for it.
So, there is no reason to skip the most important meal of the day. Whether you are in a rush or have plenty of time to cook up a hearty meal, you’ve got plenty of healthy options to choose from that will make sure you stay focused for the day. After all, a good breakfast means a good day, right?
